Warband Warriors

Trey Corbies figures as painted by Bob Barnetson.

The talented and affable Bob Barnetson in Edmonton was kind enough post a painted element of Trey Corbies ‘Warrior Women of Erin’ on his wargaming blog.

I really admire his approach to painting the plaid cloak.

Warband plaids.

Here’s the aft view for a good look at the cloak.

His technique also shows off the clean details of figures.

You are well advised to check out Bob’s blog on a regular basis as he moves around periods and scales in dizzying fashion.

Thanks again Bob.

Bob’s Miniature Wargaming Blog can be found at  http://edmontonwargamer.blogspot.com/ .

Please send us pictures of your painted Trey Corbies figs as well.  We are always surprised and pleased when we see how other gamer’s interpret the raw, basic idea of our miniatures and execute the concept to a finished work.

Reorganization of the troops.

August 3rd, 2010

We’ve done a small re-arrangement of the codes for the Irish Warrior Women.

The two selections originally titled ‘Warband Warriors’ and ‘Javelin Warriors’ have been deleted and collapsed into as single item called SIFT-03 ‘Warriors’.

Thank you to those friends and customers (who are really the same thing) who suggested this reorganization. You now get 8 figures with five possible pose variations, as well as shields and weapons for all. If you envision lighter troops with no shields and only javelins, it’s easy to do. Use those shields and swords for something else. I’ve yet to meet a miniature gamer who can’t find uses for extra ‘bits’.

Another good bit of news! We’ve been able to lower postal rates a bit. Times being what they are, we are happy to help you hold onto a bit more of your money.

Restocks and summertime!

July 23rd, 2010

Trey Corbies is now restocked. The cavernous vaults at Dun Corbie are once again overflowing with wee warrior women.

Thanks so much to all our customers (and a wonderful, patient bunch you are) who waited for this day. Orders have been shipped!

We’ll be updating the site soon with more painting ideas and more inspiring pictures of full armies. As well, we’ll be introducing some new product combinations that should make it easier for you to really maximize your purchasing power (I love it when I get to use marketing talk…)

Summertime is a pretty relaxed period around Dun Corbie.  All of us generally fly the coup of the city and head for the hills.  With the mountains so close it’s impossible to resist their beckoning. The summer months a generally pretty quiet in the miniature business but we will continue regular operations, especially so we can service our friends in the southern half of this planet.

Have a great summer.

Irish Gallery updated!

May 26th, 2010

Imagine that, the first run of figures sells out just as we manage to get some pictures of the warband and javelin figures up on the site! Well, the moulds are already spinning, so the store should be updated soon, and again the flow of lead-free pewter will continue!

But until that time, check out the new images in the Irish Gallery. Along with a picture of the assembled chariot of Maeve the warrior queen, there’s also Scathatch herself, ready to lead her warriors into battle along side Maeve. Along with those two, there’s a handful of warriors with open hands, although they are depicted with javelins, as well as the priestess! Only two more figures from the line yet to be painted, stay tuned for another update on those!

First Run Sold Out.

May 25th, 2010

It’s been a great first few weeks for The Corbies.

Thanks very much to those who sent us their comments. And a special thanks to those who ordered figures from our first miniature  line, The Morrigan’s Own.

Which leads me to our announcement. We are pretty much sold out of the first production run of our figures. We have some stock left in chariots, severed heads and the ever lovable dags. However, we are quite depleted in the foot figure departments, namely our Warband (SIFT-01),Javelins(SIFT-02) and Slingers(SIFT-03).

We will announce when our quantities are fully restocked. We expect three weeks delay. In the meantime, we continue to invite you to place your orders. This will ensure you are at the top of the queue when our stock levels are fulled and shipping resumes.

May 1st 2010 Beltane

For Immediate release

New Historical Miniatures Company claims niche

Trey Corbies Miniatures have arrived on the historical miniatures scene with a new line of figures already turning heads and raising debates. The company has just launched their new website at www.treycorbies.com to display and market their new line of miniatures.

The Morrigan’s Own: Warrior Women of Ancient Erin’ is a full line of 15mm pewter miniatures which portrays an all female warband from the history and mythology of Pre-Christian Ireland. From the chariot borne queen and champions to the slingers and javelineers that would make up the bulk of the force, The Morrigan’s Own miniature line has been researched and sculpted with an eye toward realism and authenticity.

“We’re a first”, says Corbie Sean, one of the three friends and partners who make up Trey Corbies. “We’re the first and only historical miniatures line that was designed and executed as an all-female force with this dedication to authenticity”. Sean explains, “There are many ancient cultures with a strong female warrior tradition. These traditions have received little attention in the historical wargaming hobby.”

Corbie Sean, business manager of Trey Corbies cites the epic sagas of ancient Celtic Ireland such as the Táin Bó Cúailnge as an inspiration for the project.  “The assertive and frankly dangerous women of these stories such as Maeve, Aife and Scathach, stand equal to the male heroes and deserve to be depicted in the miniature wargaming hobby,” he says. The product and site launch on the ancient Celtic Festival of Beltane (May 1st) was our salute to these roots.

Corbie Joe agrees, also citing historical documentation by Roman writers such as Plutarch and Ammianus Marcellenus. “These guys from the Greco-Roman culture were fascinated and awestruck. Unlike Greek and Roman women, Celtic women fought side by side with the men. Like these historians what has captured our imagination”.

For Corbie Joe, sculptor of the line, authenticity was paramount in depicting these Irish Warrior Women. “We researched clothing, weapons and the military systems of early Ireland and worked hard to meld them together in the figures”. “We really like the fact we depict everyone from the very well-equipped aristocratic chariot champions to the lowly slingers who were likely cow herders or shepherds. Each of our figures has her own story to tell”.

“We’re gamers and modelers too,” says Corbie Patrick the other partner making three. “We’ve added all the cool stuff we know we like and want. We’re pretty certain other gamers and collectors will enjoy and appreciate them as well.”

Severed heads, a priestess, cow skulls and running wolf hounds are all available to collectors, gamers and modelers to personalize their forces.

“There is still more to come” adds Corbie Patrick, architectural sculptor of the trio. “We are committed to supporting our lines with lots of additions ”. “We’re following this release with a wide variety of buildings and terrain features to complement this line.  Celtic forts and Ruined Roman forts will just be the start.”

‘The Morrigan’s Own: Warrior Women of Ancient Erin’ is currently being sold through the Trey Corbies site at www.treycorbies.com.  The figures are sold unpainted and are made of lead-free pewter. The figures are available in small packs (one chariot, eight foot) or in pre-made army packs for popular ancient wargames systems like De Bellus Antquitatus and Fields of Glory. Orders may be placed and processed at the website. Trey Corbies ships worldwide.

The Corbies can be contacted at corbiesinfo@gmail.com and welcome dealer inquiries.

Light the fires!

April 29th, 2010

May 1st approaches and with it two events!

The first day of May marks the ancient Celtic festival of Beltane.  It marked the beginning of summer activity for the pastoral peoples of ancient Ireland. (It also marks the time for me to get my herb and veggie garden planted in these northerly parts)

And I’m sure by now you’ve drawn the connection for our second event. May 1st marks the launch day for Trey Corbies premier miniature line, ‘The Morrigan’s Own, Warrior Women of Ancient Erin’

We will be offering everything you see on the site.  As well, we have three DBA packs for the Scots-Irish army. These packs will allow you to do any variant of the Book II/54A army. They are the most cost effective way to collect a Trey Corbies Scots-Irish army of wailing warrior women! We’ve crafted the line to reflect the personalities of the units in the army rather than assembling a mixed bag of figures that ‘sort of’ make the grade. The Deluxe Pack is my favourite. We’ve thrown in every option for the ‘A’ army, but also included a priestess, severed heads and (my favourite) extra wolf-hounds. The hounds look great running along side a chariot.

Take a look!

We are also doing unit and army packs for Fields of Glory, I’ll be posting those on the site soon.

Cheers, -Corbie Sean
